The Amazing Pepper Festival is a celebration of sustainable agriculture, farmers, renewable energy, and the creativity of the Piedmont’s chefs, brewers and artisans.
It’s an outdoor event held at the best time of year in North Carolina, in the middle of a large green park in Chapel Hill’s Briar Chapel neighborhood. Around 1400+ folks come out to enjoy the music and revelry and fill up on delicious pepper-themed dishes.
For $20-$30 in advance or $35 at the door, you get to walk along and eat samples of all sorts of gourmet, local food into which the 24 of the best chefs of the central Piedmont have incorporated all types of locally grown peppers…some sweet, some hot, some smoky.
These chefs get super creative with these dishes, making everything from pepper ice cream to savory dishes, to salsas, to pepper gumbo and chili. They buy all the peppers from our local farmers, supporting our local foodshed. You should come hungry, because you’ll want to taste everything! Click here to see a list of participating chefs.
Along the way, you can purchase (cash bar) all types of micro-brews and micro-distillers in which some of the brewers have added peppers to their ales! There is also a local winery and local soda and coffee to choose from. For a list of drinks, brewers and wine, click here.
On top of that, there is awesome local music. And then on top of that, there are 25 educational booths that cover sustainability, conservation, renewable energy, local food, clean air, clean water and green funerals!
Creativity is on display everywhere at PepperFest — from the scrumptious concoctions dreamed up by our chefs and brewers, to the sweet melodies drifting down from the bands onstage, to the complex flavors embedded in the peppers themselves, — there’s a lot to make us proud to be from N.C.
Come out and experience it! Tickets can be purchased here.
