Pickards Mountain Eco-Institute, a beautiful nature learning center just outside of Chapel Hill, is offering a Young Herbalists Program this fall, with a several herbalism classes for kids, ages 4-16.
Kids will learn about the diverse plant medicines growing right here in the NC Piedmont through hands-on activities. They will explore how to grow and harvest herbs and make health and self-care products with common herbs such as plantain, tulsi, echinacea, comfrey and calendula.
The aim of the classes is to help students deepen their relationships with the plant world through scientific and contemplative ways of knowing. Kids will come home with homemade herbal products for the whole family, such as herbal syrups, salves, teas, smoothies, and bug spray.
Three unique morning programs serve three different age ranges of homeschoolers, as well as one afternoon program for students in formal school.
Classes are offered at these times:
- Monday 10am-noon (ages 4-7)
- Tuesday 10am-12:30pm (ages 13-16)
- Tuesday After School 4pm-6pm (ages 8-14)
- Thursday 10am-12:30pm (ages 8-12)
Tuition for these programs is offered on a sliding scale.
