CFAC grand shell game

THE BANDS:

The Grand Shell Game’s sound has been called “prog-Americana”, “folk-core”, and sometimes just good old rock and roll. the songs are deceptively simple yet contain an elegant complexity. danceable, even in odd times. Singable, even as the melodies challenge and bend. Thoughtful, even when the whole of a tune fits on a fortune cookie slip. There is a familiarity in the music, but it’s clearly different. Surprising. And then the next song begins. The experience is revisited from a different angle. The theme is one of love, in all its forms. It speaks to a belief in each other. It champions the potential found in all of us. It celebrates life….

The grand shell game is a celebration of life.

Ancient Cities. Though they hail from Charlotte, Ancient Cities sound like Omaha with their spacey folk-rock, fuzzy guitars and classic rock influences. There’s definitely a warm, mysterious layer of psyche feelings under these eclectic sounds, and while the hand clapping opener might make you think you’re in for a campfire soundtrack, when the synth enters it’s only one of many unexpected and pleasant surprises. Fans of rock from the ’60s on will find something here to embrace.

THE VENUE:

The Plant. Outdoor and family friendly. Bring your blanket and stretch out on the lawn (but we bet you’ll be dancing the night away!) There will be a cash bar and children’s activities, and delicious local food. All ages are welcome, kids 12 and under are free.
