Hiss Golden Messenger (solo) is the project of songwriter M.C. Taylor. Taylor’s music draws from the deep well of traditional and vernacular Southern song that Taylor has explored and documented as a practicing folklorist, as well as the more alchemical strains of 1970’s country-rock, dub music, and kosmische music. Summarized by The Huffington Post, “like Van Morrison circa Astral Weeks, Hiss Golden Messenger confounds traditional-music genre expectations.” Distinguished by their fascinatingly ambiguous conjuring of spiritual–and often specifically Biblical–concerns and characters, as well as a taut lyricism informed by writers as disparate as Ronnie Lane, Lew Welch, and Wendell Berry, Taylor’s unabashedly ardent songs rank among the most exquisitely crafted and eloquent of his generation.

Their 2011 LP Poor Moon has been hailed as a masterful and moving country-soul statement on faith and family by Pitchfork, Uncut, Salon, and many others, leading to profiles of Taylor by NPR, The Oxford American, and Interview Magazine. In April of 2013, Paradise of Bachelors released Hiss Golden Messenger’s eagerly anticipated full-length follow up to Poor Moon, the remarkable, and darker, Haw, which earned glowing reviews from the New York Times, MOJO, The Times of London, The Washington Post, and beyond, becoming one of the year’s most critically lauded recordings. Early 2014 saw a reissue of Hiss Golden Messenger’s fabled lost album Bad Debt, earning unanimous critical praise.

Justin Fedor (opening) is a multi-instrumentalist songwriter based out of Charlotte, NC. Founding member of The New Familiars, Fedor has also been seen touring solo and with the groups Ancient Cities, Band Of Opportunity, and Lowry. Currently working with producer, Stephen Warwick, on his solo album; Fedor has also recorded with the groups The New Familiars, Ancient Cities, and many of his solo artist friends including Ian Thomas, Reeve Coobs, & Alex Lowry. Over the years, Fedor has shared the bill (in one form or another) with Taj Mahal, Del McCoury, Sam Bush, Tyler Ramsey, Keller Williams, Emmitt-Nershi & more and has joined performers on stage like Johnny Neel (Allman Brothers Band), Ronnie McCoury (Traveling McCourys), Danny Barnes (Dave Matthews Band), John Cowan (Doobie Brothers), Langhorne Slim and more. Having toured much of the US, Fedor has become known for his denim on denim high-energy, raw performances. However, in recent years he has taken to a more gentle approach to his solo performances, opting for a seated stage presence while moving away from the strummer acoustic tunes and towards a finger picking style on his hollow-bodied electric.
