Join us in keeping this much needed conversation about death alive. From Advanced Directives to honoring our ancestors. From home funerals and green burials to artistic expressions of grief. Let’s gather as a community and delve deeper into the topic of death and all of its facets.
This gathering’s topic is “DEATH ACROSS CULTURES.” We will gather to listen to the village rites of four different cultural groups very different from the dominant Western culture. Each guest speaker will present for approximately ten minutes, followed by a group discussion.
We are still seeking speakers, please contact us if you would like to present on Village Death, Dying and the Funeral Rites of your Cultural group.
This event is open to anyone. This is a vulnerable topic – so feel free to express your feelings. Bring your poetry. Bring your wisdom. Bring your knowledge. Bring your tears. But most of all – bring an open mind.
And yes. Cupcakes will be served.

About our hosts:
Alisa Esposito works for Abundance NC as “Creative Force.” She runs Sparkroot Farm with her 3 children, dogs, parrot, chickens, goats, pigs & donkey. She considers working for Abundance NC & Sparkroot Farm the Work for which she is Meant. From 1999, she lived “on the literal edge of nowhere” in the swamps of eastern NC, while her husband, Chris Lucash, worked on endangered red wolf restoration. She moved to Moncure/Pittsboro in July 2015 with Chris as he suffered serious decline from ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Chris died at home surrounded by the love of family and an amazing, supportive community. She is now administering a Green/Conservation Burial Ground at her farm. She is overjoyed to be sharing the vision and the work of growing Abundance, through her work with the organization as well as at Sparkroot, and can’t believe she has, at long last, found Home.
