an Abundance DIY Sustainability Workshop with Audrey Williams & Amy Crawford
Saturday, April 29th, 1pm-4pm
Located at the Happy Chick Farm, 4056 Crawford Dairy Road, Chapel Hill, NC.
Interested in raising backyard chickens or ducks? Come to this workshop to learn what you need to know to get started. We will cover all of the basics, including differences between breeds, habitat and feed requirements, coop design, predator protection and seasonal concerns. Find out what makes chickens happy.
The workshop will cover many insider tips learned through years of trial and error. Learn from our experiences and see a small scale flock in action. This workshop is suitable for beginners as we will cover the foundations of chicken keeping, however past workshops have also proven useful to experienced owners. If you have compared farm fresh eggs to the ones sold in the grocery store, you can understand the appeal of a backyard flock. As a nutritious and affordable protein source, eggs are an important ingredient in gaining self sufficiency. And even if you don’t want chickens of your own, you’ll gain a better appreciation for the local farmers who produce eggs.
Amy and Audrey manage their small homestead farm, Happy Chick Farm in northern Chatham County. They raise chickens, ducks and goats and grow vegetables. Amy hatches chicks and ducklings for locals and offers incubating services. They recently renovated a farmhouse on their property for rental through Air B&B so that visitors can enjoy the quiet and simplicity of life on the farm. See The Homestead here!
