Bereavement Ball – Dead Pets & Onions

July 8, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 11:59 pm

Saturday, July 8, 2017
7 PM-midnight
Secret Location in Chatham County will be sent to guests.

An Evening of Exquisite Misery. Under the full moon, in a grim garden lit by fireflies, we gather to celebrate our impermanence and revel in life’s slow unraveling.

“A recreation of Gunter Grass’s “Onion Cellar” in a party we call Loss – An Evening of Exquisite Misery. A fashionable crowd gathers to chop onions at midnight, weep together and wallow in collective melancholy. The dress code is “decaying beauty.’ Guests sob over portraits of deceased childhood pets and sign their divorce papers on stage, while bands strum dirges, on themes of spiritual gloom.”  – Suzette Field, A Curious Invitation

A Splendid Time had by All.

Farm to Fork Dinner with Chef Whitney Dane. Cocktails by Fair Game Beverage Company.
Cabaret by: Shady Darling & The Velvet Curtain.
Bring your pet photos and a knife. Onions provided.

Shady Darling and the Velvet Curtain Cabaret

Cabaret by: Shady Darling and the Velvet Curtain – a female fronted soul funk cabaret band out of Durham, NC. This songstress of southern soul sings tales of murderess madames and deathly seduction laced with speakeasy jazz and mournful blues. Discovered in the dusty corners of burlesque lounges and the shadowy flaps of circus tents, with roots from Louisiana to Appalachia, this band of misfits is sure to tempt and tease the senses.

“…We have barely disembarked into life…we’ve only just now been born, let’s not fill our mouths with so many uncertain names, with so many sad labels, with so many pompous letters, with so much yours and mine, with so much signing of papers. I intend to confuse things, to unite them, make them new-born intermingle them, undress them, until the light of the world has the unity of the ocean, a generous wholeness, a fragrance alive and crackling.”
― Pablo Neruda
