Ancestral Healing and Relating with the Dead
12:30-1:30pm at the Side Stage
Everyone has loving and wise ancestors, no matter how complicated your family history, and we can draw on their wisdom and support for personal and family healing. Relating with beloved ancestors encourages healthy self-esteem, helps us clarify our place in the world, and invites us to grieve their departure in more connective ways.

Participants will learn ways to safely and directly engage personal lineage ancestors as sources of guidance, healing, and inspiration. Discussion will include ways to assist those who have not yet joined the ancestors and the role ancestor reverence can play in intergenerational healing. For more information see: ancestralmedicine.org.

Community Offering for the Ancestors
6:00-7:00 pm at the Despacho Tent
One common practice in many traditions of ancestor reverence is sharing food and drink with the dead, feasting them with offerings and remembrance. In this co-created ceremony, we’ll enjoy inspiration from the Andean tradition of the despacho, a bundle of food, prayers, and blessings dispatched from our world to the unseen.

We’ll include prayers for the well-being of the ancestors of all present and for family, cultural, and earth healing. Flowers, dried herbs, grains, and other biodegradable offerings are great if you have them on hand. Everyone will be invited to include prayers, all ages and backgrounds warmly welcome.

Included with your All-Day TICKET

“I specialize in ancestral and family healing and in helping folks learn to relate well with the rest of the natural world.

My focus on ancestors sources from earth-honoring traditions, from my training as a doctor of psychology, and from two decades of implementing the teachings of ancestor reverence in my own life. Since 2005 I’ve guided hundreds of ancestor trainings, rituals, and talks throughout the United States and helped many others to reconnect with their family ancestors through personal sessions. My book, Ancestral Medicine: Rituals for Personal and Family Healing, will be available in 2017.

I’ve trained with teachers of Mahayana Buddhism, Islamic Sufism, and diverse indigenous paths, including the remnant and returning traditions of my older English, Irish, and German ancestors.

My doctoral research in psychology focused on the use of shamanic healing practices by clinical mental health professionals, and I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist. Training as a therapist, living in other societies, and immersion in different lineages of ritual work all inform my kind and non-dogmatic approach to ancestor and earth reverence.”

“…We have barely disembarked into life…we’ve only just now been born, let’s not fill our mouths with so many uncertain names, with so many sad labels, with so many pompous letters, with so much yours and mine, with so much signing of papers. I intend to confuse things, to unite them, make them new-born intermingle them, undress them, until the light of the world has the unity of the ocean, a generous wholeness, a fragrance alive and crackling.”
― Pablo Neruda
